Fuel Team Rubicon’s Response to Super Typhoon Sinlaku
Super Typhoon Sinlaku developed in the Western Pacific Ocean as a powerful tropical cyclone in early April. After causing extensive damage in the Federated States of Micronesia, Sinlaku impacted Guam and made landfall in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) on Tuesday, April 14th as a powerful storm, equivalent to a Category 4 Hurricane. The storm brought destructive winds, torrential rainfall, coastal flooding, structural damage, and widespread power outages across islands in its path. Guam and the CNMI are both unincorporated territories of the United States.
On Monday, Team Rubicon staffed our virtual Emergency Operations Center to prepare to respond to potential impacts across the vulnerable coastal communities in the Mariana Islands, including Guam, Tinian, and Saipan. As of April 16th, Team Rubicon's Advance Team has pre-staged in Hawaii before proceeding to Guam and the CNMI to meet with decision makers and assess the nature of unmet needs in the region
